Myspace will never make it

Myspace is a piece of shit. It’s skanky, awkward, and feels like a gigantic steaming pile of crap. Welcome to the perpetual beta. Welcome to Web 2.0. The idea of myspace is great, but the execution is so half assed that even loyal myspace users are looking for other options.

Ask anyone why they use myspace or why they signed up and created a profile and they will tell you it is because that’s where 99% of their friends/contacts have profiles. Myspace was web 2.0 before most people knew what web 2.0 was. They didn’t think of it that way. How many people hardly ever check their myspace profiles anymore? Or at least way less than they used to check it? It’s so completely out of control with embedded music, video and image files. Ever click on someones link to their page and wish you hadn’t? It’s painful!! It actually hurts to use myspace. But, we are trapped aren’t we? That’s the brilliance of the model though. They got all of these people to sign up and create profiles and invest all this time and emotion into myspace and now no one will make a switch to a similar, even superior service.

Why is myspace GOD of social networking sites? Myspace looks like shit, it’s slower than a dogs ass, it constantly crashes, the signin functionality doesnt always work and you have to sign in multiple times, security is scarce and its SPAMVILLE CENTRAL. With all these, and plenty more drawbacks, it’s obvious that myspace owes its success to the humongous amount of users it has. When does the bottom give out though? How long will people continue to use crappy software until they have had enough? With all the custom profile functionality, a re-design isn’t the easiest thing to pull off. It could be done, but a lot of users at that point would be lost.

Myspace is a joke with no punchline, and it cannot keep up with the pace of other web 2.0-social sites because it grew way too fast. Myspace painted itself into a corner and left no way from one side of the basement to the stairs.
