Score! First Morels

Posted in Morels on April 23rd, 2007 by wapsi |

After at least an hour-and-a-half of searching some nearby public land I found my first morels of the season. Very small and hard to find. They were all found around one large bark peeled elm near the forest’s edge. Lots of sun and southern exposure. If we get the rain forecasted for this week, we will be in fine shape by week’s end. I found about a dozen and left a couple to come back to.

That looks about like what I found Sunday aft. in Linn County. Small greys, south slope with alot of sun. Biggest one was the size of my thumb. Next week should be good with the current rains and temps. forecast to be in the 70’s this weekend.

They are sweet little buggers. :-) The map app had to go. It just wasn’t right for what I wanted to do and seemed really buggy so I took it off.
Lets hope for those 70 degree temps for this weekend. IT will be go time.
